A great standoff. A great and dramatic image. The dogs innate personalities shine through. I hope they were playing and did not fight.

We actually have a golden retriever and a shepherd. They are not confrontational at all, but are mutually happy to exist together. The retriever is the older dog, the shepherd actually shows much of the delightful playfulness of a retriever. I guess she was socialized that way as a younger dog by the retriever.
